Palatine slot receiver/running back Conner Ignacio was one of two recipients to be awarded the "GridIrons Gives Back" scholarship award for excellence in the classroom as well as on the gridiron.

Sponsored by Love Local Off 53 and in conjunction with GridIrons, Ignacio received a $500 check towards tuition at Trinity International University, where he will be attending in the fall.

Ignacio missed his senior season due to an ACL injury.

"I wanted to give Conner this award because he never had a chance to have a senior year," said Pirates head coach Corey Olson. "He's one of the hardest working kids we've had…he's sacrificed a ton, a team first guy, and he never got rewarded as a senior."

Nominated for the scholarship by his coach, Ignacio currently has a GPA of 2.5. He plans to enter the pastor program at Trinity and play football for the Trojans.

"It was an honor to be chosen for this award by coach," said Ignacio. "It was unexpected…he's watched over me for four years and has always had my back. I gave all I could for the program and for him to award me, it was the cherry on top."
