Broncos Best Bison For 500th Win
Masterpiece.
It’s the only word that encapsulates the Barrington football team’s performance in its Friday night home opener.
In search of the program’s 500th win, the Broncos handily defeated visiting Buffalo Grove by a score of 42-0 to earn their first victory of the 2019 campaign.
“Last week was a tough loss to a very good Warren football team,” said Broncos head coach Joe Sanchez. “To be able to learn from our mistakes and to continue to improve, to be in front of our home crowd, and for our guys to be able to get win number 500 at home is special.”
Points were at a premium for the Broncos a week ago at Warren, as the team managed just six the entire evening.
On Friday night, they had 28 by halftime.
With under five minutes left in the first quarter, the Broncos drew first blood when quarterback Tommy Fitzpatrick tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Quinn Ketel for a 7-0 edge.
That lead doubled early in the second stanza when Ketel burrowed into the end zone on a 3-yard TD run to make it 14-0.
Junior wide receiver Joey Gurskis extended that lead to 21-0 when he ran it in from 10-yards out with 3:05 left in the half, but the Broncos were still not finished.
With 1:26 left, senior defensive back Nick Barron had an impressive diving interception that set up Fitzpatrick and company at midfield.
Fitzpatrick hit Gurskis on a 2-yard TD lob on fourth and goal from 2-yard line with under 20 ticks until intermission for a 28-0 advantage.
The senior signal caller tacked on a nifty 30-yard TD run in the third quarter and rounded out the scoring on a 70-yard TD throw to E.J. Darlington to make it 42-0.
Not lost in all this was the stellar play of the Broncos defense.
Barrington had 5 sacks on the night and held the Bison to -7 yards rushing in the first half, and 4 yards total in the contest.
