Stellar Defensive Second Half Sparks Saxons
Schaumburg Saxons sophomore forward Chris Hodges led all scorers with 15 points as the visiting Saxons boys basketball team earned a 54-29 road victory against MSL West foe Hoffman Estates Friday night.
With the win, Schaumburg (9-3, 2-2) earned its ninth win of the year after only winning 11 all of last season. But thanks to Hodges and company, things are trending upwards for this talented squad.
"We expect that out of Chris," said Saxons head coach Wade Heisler. "We always talk to him and say, "Are you who we say you are?" And every night he delivers. He has a maturity level that's second to none…I'm proud and privileged to be his coach…his ceiling isn't even close to being met yet."
The Saxons lead 15-7 after the first quarter and maintained a 30-23 edge at intermission.
But when play resumed, Schaumburg put all hopes for a Hawks comeback to bed by starting the third quarter on an 11-1 run thanks to a pair of 3-pointers by Christian Orozco and one by Michael Hodges (13 points).
"I thought our leadership picked it up in the second half…guys off our bench gave us great defensive minutes …and we executed much better in the second half and that was the difference tonight," said Heisler.
