LaBarge Leads Lady Vikings To Big Win

New day. Same outcome.

After making quick work of Cary-Grove on Wednesday in the Lake Zurich Turkey Thriller Tourney, the Fremd Lady Vikings were back at it again on Friday night. This time, visiting Johnsburg was the victim.

Paced by sophomore forward Grace LaBarge’s 15 points, Fremd prevailed by a score of 72-43 to move to 2-0 on the season as five Lady Vikings scored in double digits.

“She did a nice job and came in and hit some big shots,” said Lady Vikings head coach David Yates. “I knew she wasn’t happy with her performance from the other day, but she’s a competitor ... she can do so much, she’s got length, can knock down shots and puts the ball on the floor.”

LaBarge scored 10 of her 15 points in the second quarter, as the Lady Vikings turned a 14-11 edge after the first into a 27-11 advantage midway through the second stanza. They never looked back, as the team benefitted from a staggering 20 steals over the course of the evening.

“We were able to play in spurts and when we were able to execute defensively, I thought that put us in good shape,” said Yates. “I thought we turned them over when we pressed and that got our game going up and down.”

The Lady Vikings will play at Lakes on Saturday afternoon while Johnsburg (0-2) will face Rolling Meadows.
