Walker Receives "GridIrons Gives Back" Scholarship

Carson Walker accepts the Gridirons Gives Back award with Coach Olson and presented Robert Holland of Kelleher & Buckley and Dan Irons of GridIrons.

Palatine's senior offensive guard Carson Walker was one of two recipients to be awarded the "GridIrons Gives Back" scholarship for excellence in the classroom as well as on the gridiron.

Sponsored by the law offices of Kelleher & Buckley, LLC., and in conjunction with GridIrons, Walker received a $500 check towards tuition at Illinois State University, where he will be attending in the fall.

"Carson is an exceptional young man in many ways," said Palatine head coach Corey Olson. "He's a well-rounded student that has been an important member of our team for four years."

Walker, a 3-year starter at offensive guard, started 37 games over 4 years for the Pirates and even played some snaps on the defensive side of the ball last season.

"Carson was one of the most physical kids I have coached, a dominating down blocker that will wear you down over the course of the game," Olson said. "He is a very intelligent player as he rarely makes mental errors or body position errors as an offensive lineman."

And it doesn't seem as though Walker makes too many errors in the classroom either.

Walker, who plans on studying marketing at Illinois State, finished his high school career with an impressive 3.73 GPA and was nominated by his coach for the scholarship.

"I feel very honored to be nominated by coach for this award," said Walker. "It's an honor to receive this award that will help pay for college...and I this award is great because it gives back to the players in the MSL West and will help them with their college expenses in the future."
