Week 1 Matchup: Schaumburg vs. St. Charles North

The North Stars ran roughshod over the Saxons in last year's opener on the road, cruising to a 42-10 victory. It was the first of six occasions that St. Charles would score over 40 points or more in a game during the 2016 campaign, outscoring its opponents by a 420-136 margin.

The Saxons did not let that loss deter them from reeling off four consecutive wins following the rout to improve to 4-1, but were bit by the injury bug down the stretch and dropped its last four contests to miss the playoffs, finishing 4-5.

But if recent history has taught us anything, Schaumburg will be back in the playoffs this season as the Saxons have never missed the postseason in consecutive years under Coach Mark Stilling since he took over the reigns in 2005.

Stilling and his boys are hopeful that "third time's a charm" as the Saxons have been handed an opening- season loss to the North Stars two years in a row.

Buoyed by a veteran offensive line and the lethal combination of senior running back, Jordan Salgado (910 rush, 12 Tds in 2016) and junior speedster, Hezekiah Trotter (435 rush, 299 rec, 8 total Tds in 2016), the Saxons should give the North Stars a much tougher test in 2017 as it hosts them once again on Friday, Aug.25th, at 7:30p.m.
