December 8, 2018

 Girls Recap

Barrington junior guard Shanna Turczynski drilled a game-winning 3-pointer with 5.8 seconds to play in regulation to lift the Fillies to a 43-40 victory over visiting Schaumburg.

With her team trailing 40-38 and under a minute remaining in the contest, Turczynski (17 points) followed up her own miss with a putback to even things at 40.

After the Lady Saxons turned the ball over on the ensuing possession with just 17 seconds to go, Turczynski drained the triple to help the Fillies improve to 2-7 on the season.

"She (Turczynski) played a really nice game and hit some big shots for us tonight," said Fillies head coach Babbi Barreiro. "Schaumburg did a great job of taking Tay (Taylor Thompson) out of the game, but our other kids stepped up and great shot by Shanna, I love to see her take that shot."

Boys Recap

In boys action, the Broncos followed up the frantic finish in the Fillies game with a nail-biting finish of their own, as junior guard Aaron Sarkar's game-winning bucket with just 1.9 seconds to play hoisted Barrington past Schaumburg 51-50.

Sarkar led the Broncos with 19 points. Senior sharp shooter Jason Boock added 17 points, including five 3-pointers to pace the home team.

Schaumburg senior guard Michael Hodges led all scorers with 26 and had given the Saxons a 50-48 lead with his drive to the hoop with 29 seconds left in regulation.

However, with the score 50-49 and 11 ticks remaining, the Saxons missed the front end of a one-and-one. Senior Mark Johnson drove underneath the bucket, dishing it to an open Sarkar for the score and eventual win.

"He (Sarkar) played a complete game tonight," said Broncos head coach Bryan Tucker. "He was running point, attacking the rim and on the other end, was guarding Schaumburg's best player. He played with a lot of energy, and played every phase of the game tonight…I'm not sure how he's even standing right now with all the energy he put forward tonight … he's a kid that just competes every day."
